2021 Trip to Yucatan

Depart US for Mexico: April 13

Return to US: April 20

Trip Schedule (Tentative)

Trips leave on a designated Tuesday in April and return the following Thursday. Therapists will volunteer in clinics in the towns of Tizimin, Panaba, Sucila, and Espita. Surgeons volunteer at the General Hospital of San Carlos in Tizimin.

Tuesday: Arrive in Merida, Yucatan and stay the night.

Wednesday: Drive to Tizimin. Conduct a late afternoon meet-and-greet with clinic staff and local government leaders and provide an educational session. We spend each night in Tizimin until the last night when we are back in Merida.

Thursday - Friday: Therapists work in clinics and doctors work in hospital.

Saturday - Sunday: Optional excursions and time to explore Tizimin.

Monday - Tuesday: Therapists work in clinics and doctors work in hospital.

Wednesday: Half day of work and then the group returns to Merida.

Thursday: Depart Mexico from Merida.

Alliance volunteers and rehabilitation professionals in Yucatan are working to:

  1. Improve and enhance evidence-based documents in Spanish to be used as references by clinic staff

  2. Develop a systematic documentation system that can be used in the clinics

  3. Develop a model for consultation services, such as those provided by Alliance that can be used in other state rehabilitation clinics.
